These Moth Orchids intrigued me as I took reference photos in my friend’s orchid greenhouse one day. This vertical format worked perfectly as I composed the downward arch of the flower stem. Coming in from the top right angle of the frame and keeping the focal point in the upper righthand quadrant of the paper made for a striking composition. Using some strong bold washes and then painting extreme darks around the delicate pedals of this spectacular species make this cluster of flowers jump right off the page.
